The Medical College Admissions Test or MCAT is an 8-hour subject-based exam that covers introductory biology, general and organic chemistry, biochemistry, physics, psychology and sociology. It also has a critical reading section that is not science-based. (Click here for more detailed information on content). Because of the heavy science requirements, the earliest most students are ready to take the MCAT is the spring of their junior year.
