ITE Biology and Chemistry focuses on strategies that encourage student observations, questioning, and critical thinking skills. Emphasis will be on strengthening the math-science connection, finding new approaches to some familiar activities, exploring technology, and sharing strategies to streamline teacher prep. This activity/discussion-centered workshop includes course-specific activities each day. Time will be provided for participants to customize activities for their classroom. Biology- DNA Blast, Bubble Survivorship; Plop, Fizz Graphing; Natural Selection in the Bag; Ping Pong Challenge; Effects of Alcohol on Membranes; Barf bag blowout, Syringe Respiration studies; Modeling Biomagnification; Finding the Energy in Food
Chemistry – Signs of a Chem Rxn; Modeling periodicity; Airbag ChallengeSee-a-Mole ; Green Rxn Balancing; Radioactive Skittles; Chromatography Challenge; Meeting Charles; Rate the foam; ; Hotpack/ Coldpack; Investigating Copper Pennies ( multi-concept application)
