Guided Tours of the Former Ku Klux Klan Building in Fort Worth

On April 7, Carlos Gonzalez-Jaime, the Executive Director of Transform 1012 N. Main Street will give a 60-minute narrated tour of the former Ku Klux Klan building (former Ellis Pecan Co.) for Silver Frogs. It is located one mile north of downtown Fort Worth.

The non-profit organization is transforming the former Ku Klux Klan building into The Fred Rouse Center for Arts and Community Healing which will be utilized when it is finished by groups targeted by the Klan in the past. The tour leader will provide facts and details about the Fort Worth KKK, the lynching of Fred Rouse, and plans for the building’s future. Tours will take place at 9:00am and 11:00am with a maximum of 30 attendees per tour. If those tours are filled, a third tour will be added at 2:00pm 

DETAILS ABOUT THE TOUR

  • You must sign a liability waiver in advance using this link: CLICK HERE

  • You must provide your own transportation to the building; there is a fenced parking lot available for parking adjacent to the building. Directions are below.
  • Hard hats are always furnished to all attendees to wear during the tour. 
  • Attendees should wear closed-toe shoes.
  • Attendees will be standing during the entire tour; there is no place to sit.
  • The only restroom on site is a Porta-Potty.

DIRECTIONS

The parking lot is on N. Commerce Street, but It does not have a GPS address. Use the address of 825 N. Commerce Street, Fort Worth; and then proceed two more blocks to the fenced-in parking lot on the left in the 1000 Block of N. Commerce Street. (Access from N. Main Street is blocked.)

**Attendees should arrive 10 minutes early to sign a release required by Transform 1012 N. Main Street.**

A Walking Tour of the Cultural District with Graham Rutherford

Join your Silver Frog friends as Graham Rutherford takes us on a walking tour of the Cultural District.  Graham will enlighten us with information on the architecture and history of the Modern Museum, the Kimbell Art Museum including the Louis I Kahn building and Renzo Piano Pavilion, the Amon Carter Museum, the Community Arts Center, the Will Rogers Complex and Casa Mañana.  

 

Tours will be held on Tuesday, April 21 at either 10:00 a.m. or 12:30 p.m.  We will combine the two groups for a fun lunch at the Kimbell Art Museum Restaurant at 11:15 a.m.  

 

Logistics information will be sent to those who register for a tour.
