    Taking inspiration from Rick Goldsmith’s documentary films targeting what is and has happened to our First Amendment freedoms in the United States, this course will examine how journalism is important in both Alaska and America and how often it faces injustices. Goldsmith’s films that we may discuss throughout this course are: Tell the Truth and Run: George Seldes and the American Press, The Most Dangerous Man in America: Daniel Ellsberg and the Pentagon Papers, and his newest film Stripped for Parts: American Journalism on the Brink.

     

    Instructor Rich Seifert is a local civil libertarian who wants us to defend our precious freedoms, the Bill of Rights, and the U.S. Constitution in local newspapers. He is a Professor Emeritus at UAF and author of countless letters to the editor of the F
