    *Section A and C: meets at 1255 Airport Way Unit 13 inside Gavora Mall where half the group will start with the myofascial care and breathwork class.
    *Section B and D: meets at 4001 Geist Rd Suite 16 inside West Valley Plaza where the other half will start with the energy work section.

    In this informative and experiential session, you’ll gain practical tools to release tension and improve flexibility through gentle myofascial techniques. Activate your parasympathetic nervous system through mindful breathwork and understand how an Energy Healing Room supports sleep, recovery, and overall energy balance by helping your body recharge on a cellular level. You will come to both of the locations for the course! When you work on the Myofascial part, classes will be held at the Airport way studio. The energy room part will be held at the Geist location. Facility fee $40; pay instructor at first meeting. Enrollment limited to 15.

    Explore local exercise programs that are fun, geared to the OLLI-aged crowd and free (or low cost). You know you "should" exercise, but the truth is unless you enjoy it, you probably won't. Learn about and try out 5 different exercise modes and see if one of them feels right for you: Introducing Strong People; Chair Yoga; FNSB Recreation offerings; Tai Chi and Qigong. Enrollment cap limited to 15.
    Instructor Diana Lingle currently leads a Strong People class at the Senior Center and keeps trying to stay at least sort of fit.

    Thursdays 12:30 - 1:30 pm (5 weeks)
    Taoist Tai Chi offers a pleasant form of exercise which incorporates stretching and relaxation. It is a mind/body activity which, when practiced diligently, is capable of improving balance, strength, range of motion, and overall well-being.
    Instructors Kate Hedstrom and Rob Cermak teach Tai Chi with the local chapter of the Taoist Tai Chi Society. They both have well over a decade of experience of learning and instructing the form, and have found many benefits from the practice.

 

  • EX-06 Skate Skiing

    *Dates TBA; estimated late February.
    *This course will be held offsite at the Birch Hill ski trails.
    This class is for skiers who have had little to no formal instruction in skate skiing OR are trying to improve and up their game a bit. Ideally, participants in this class have experience in classic skiing, however, this is not a requirement. The goal is to learn additional techniques on varied terrain so you can be more confident and efficient on any trail. Enrollment is limited to 12.
    Instructor Sven Grage is looking forward to spending time with students on the trails and loves teaching others about cross-country skiing.

    *Meets at the Fairbanks Senior Center; 1424 Moore St, Fairbanks, AK 99701.
    *This course is free to attend and OLLI membership is not required.
    *Two sections of the same course; you may take either one or both.
    *Students must bring their own yoga mat! 

    Vinyasa yoga for all levels, from beginner on up. Must be able to get up and down from the floor. Practice will include warm-up, pranayama (breathwork), yoga philosophy, vinyasa flow (movement with breath), some core strengthening work, and stretching with final rest. We will “workshop” a pose or two each time, focusing on points of precision. Modifications for poses will be offered. Enrollment is limited to 15.
    Instructor Melanie Engram has been a yoga student for 20+ years in Fairbanks, recently earning her 200-hour teacher certification from Fairbanks Yoga, registered as RYT-200 with Yoga Alliance, Spring 2025. Melanie enjoys teaching the practice to achieve a peaceful mind and strong body through Vinyasa yoga.
