This non-credit, fully online, three-week course introduces students to the research-based and field-tested terms, concepts, and principles to dismantle institutional racism. Students will complete the class with a familiarity with the language, historical orientation, and analytical framework for starting the work of dismantling racism in the institutions to which they belong. Highly interactive and taught by an instructor with thirty years experience in the anti-racism field. An award-winning instructor, Dr. Shearer is a History Professor, Director of African-American Studies at UM, and co-founder of the Damascus Road Anti-Racism process.
The class is asynchronous and entirely online; there will be weekly deadlines to meet, but the class is otherwise self-paced and students work on the class at times that best fit their schedule. Depending upon the level of engagement with class exercises and readings, students should expect to spend 3-5 hours each week for the three weeks of the class.
