Pattern Alterations & Garment Fitting
Develop the necessary skills needed for adjusting existing patterns including proper measuring techniques, fit, internal and external pattern alterations, and customizing patterns in this comprehensive class. This class allows participants to work with Alabama Chanin’s head patternmaker and technical designer Margaret May Huntley for a six-week class where you will learn about the proper tools and techniques used to achieve a properly fitted garment. You will learn basic techniques such as altering hemlines and necklines as well as more advanced techniques such as adjusting armholes and princess seams. Alabama Chanin has developed a wide range of patterns made specifically for hand-sewing with cotton jersey fabric. You will learn about the difference between Alabama Chanin patterns and commercial patterns and also how to apply what you’ve learned through the class to woven garment pattern alterations. Suited for beginner and advanced sewers alike, this class will include all necessary materials and will encourage an in-depth discussion of fit and ease, size adjustments, and customizing garments for the best possible fit.
