This course provides an overview of the skills essential to performing an audit in accordance with generally accepted auditing standards.  It addresses the following areas:

•          Evaluating evidence for sufficiency and appropriateness
•          Audit documentation

Hot off the press! A comprehensive review of the February 2024 version of the U.S. Government Accountability Office’s Government Auditing Standards, otherwise known as “the Yellow Book.”  The standard affects all auditors who perform audits of government and nonprofit organizations who receive federal funds, or where application of GAO standards is required by law, regulation or contract.  It does not address the standards applicable to performance audits.

The Governmental Accounting and Auditing Update is designed to provide its participants with a comprehensive, in-depth review of what’s happening at the GASB, AICPA and GAO, including GASB Statements and Interpretations, Statements on Auditing Standards, Auditing Interpretations, Statements on Standards for Accounting and Review Services, Ethics Interpretations, and exposure drafts, with emphasis on the practical application and impact on practitioners in small to medium sized firms and members in government.  

Learning objectives: To enable participants to understand and apply the recently adopted pronouncements of the GASB, Auditing Standards Board, Professional Ethics Executive Committee, Accounting and Review Services Committee, GAO, OMB and other bodies whose pronouncements affect the preparation and audit of financial statements of state and local governments.
