Charcoal Drawing Techniques   

This course focuses on the various techniques and materials used for producing black and white drawings. Instruction will include lecture, demonstrations, quick-sketch exercises and study of the design elements and principles. Students will draw from still life arrangements and live, clothed model poses.

Materials List

  • Strathmore 400 Series Recycled Drawing Pad, 11 X 14"
  • Strathmore 300 Series Rough Newsprint Pad, 18 X 24"
  • Kneaded Eraser
  • Art Gum
  • Ruler, 12 inch or longer
  • Portable Drawing Board (18 X 24 or larger)
  • Vine or Willow Charcoal Sticks (Soft, Medium, and Heavy)
  • Small Chamois Skin
  • Soft Cloth Rag
  • Non-permanent Artist Tape or Drafting Tape

Optional: Large Portfolio Bag for transporting finished drawings
