Robert Hanssen, Insider Spy

Robert Hanssen (b. 1944) served with the FBI for more than 20 years. A self-proclaimed devotedly religious family man, he sold secrets to the Soviet Union for 10 to 15 years. Not only did Hanssen’s duplicity result in great harm to U.S. national security, but it also resulted in the death of many U.S. agents working in Russia. Learn about a person of contradictions, the most infamous traitor of the 20th century and the subject of many books and movies. Consider that the FBI and CIA recognized the presence of a mole but pointed the finger at each other. Find out how Hanssen was caught.  Hear stories from five individuals who worked with or were assigned to locate this insider threat. Bring your interest in the topic to this lecture and discussion class.
