From Amazons to Mongols: The Vast Steppes of Asia

World civilization has been profoundly influenced by the horse cultures of the Asian steppes, from the Scythians to the Huns to the Mongols. These peoples have also contributed to the dissemination of many and sometimes unexpected things. Some, including languages and art, are viewed as beneficial. Others, such as disease, less so. Migrations on horseback led to the overthrow of settled civilizations as well as changes to cultures and history. Enhance your understanding of the impact of the peoples of the Asian steppes on world civilization. Take a brief look at Native American horse cultures in North America. Your curiosity is the only requirement to participate in this lecture and discussion class.
