ED-venture: Hike with History: Explore Princess Place Preserve

Enrich your knowledge of old Florida. Visit 1,500 pristine acres at the confluence of Pellicer Creek and the Matanzas River. Granted to Minorca-born Francisco Pellicer from Spain in 1788, the property produced corn, cane and cotton until it was burned during the Indian Wars of 1814 and 1835. Soon after Henry Cutting’s acquisition in 1886, a stunning Adirondack style lodge was constructed from indigenous materials by artisans brought to the area by his friend, Henry Flagler. Learn the origins of the property’s name. Stroll approximately 4 miles of trails framed by majestic live oaks to encounter the property’s current residents – deer, fox, owls and armadillos among them. Bring a sack lunch to debrief with fellow OLLI members. Your reward is dessert provided! Comfort stations at trailhead. Venue is not accessible. Transportation is on your own.

Required: Mobility, agility and stamina for hike on uneven dirt trails, some with holes and tree roots; dress for the weather including suitable footwear, water, hat, insect repellent, binoculars, hiking poles
