Step into the past and rediscover a pivotal moment in art history in an exhibition that reassembles key works from a groundbreaking show organized by the Woman’s Club and the newly founded Jacksonville Fine Arts Society (now MOCA). The Armory South offers insights about the vital role of women in modern art, the introduction of modernism to the American South, and the influential ideas and relationships that shaped American art in the mid-1920s. Expect to see works by renowned figures, some canonical, as well as those whose names are unfamiliar today. Dr. Scott Brown, guest curator and interim dean of UNF’s Hicks Honors College, shares his research experience in the Smithsonian Institution’s archives. He and Ylva Rouse, MOCA’s senior curator, lead you on an exhibition tour. Venue is accessible. Transportation and parking are on your own.
