Feed Sack Quilts and More

Learn the fascinating story of the use and re-use of feed sacks in quilts and a variety of other objects. The use and re-use of cloth sacks in the United States began in the 19th century, ramped up throughout the early 20th century, and took off during World War II. Though many assume feed sacks are a distinctly American phenomenon, they can be found across the globe. Following the presentation, stroll through the International Quilt Museum (IQM) exhibition “Feed Sacks: An American Fairy Tale.” Over 160 years of feed sack use and re-use are represented in the thirty-four quilts, two quilt tops, eighty-one feed sacks, and fifty-three objects on view.
