Take a trip to scenic Mahoney State Park to visit a Native American site that has been preserved in place through the efforts of archeologists at the Nebraska State Historical Society, the Nebraska Department of Transportation and the Nebraska Game and Park Commission. See and learn about the site in question and how these three agencies work together to follow state and federal cultural resources laws and preserve sites when necessary.
Park at the Crete Carrier Riverview Lodge Parking Lot. You’ll be directed to the path to the Prehistoric Burial Site for the class. Be prepared to walk on uneven ground and stand for long periods of time. Bring a lawn chair if you’d like.
Those who do not have a state park pass must purchase a $7-per-vehicle day pass when they enter.
