Italian 1 is an introductory class intended for people who have some or no knowledge of the language. Participants will develop listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills and explore aspects of the Italian culture. They will learn to communicate quickly in a basic but efficient manner in a series of situations. Grammar and vocabulary will be introduced through dialogues and short readings. Grammar will be arranged so as to reinforce what has already been learned. Grammar notes and worksheets will be provided by the instructor. Proficiency will be built through communicative activities set in real-language contexts.

We will hear about the history and origins as well as experience a chocolatier's demonstration of how these exquisite confections are created. Guests will have the opportunity to create their own delicacies under the guidance of a Master Chocolatier. The $10 per-person fee covers all materials including samples and edibles to cleanse the palate during tastings. Be aware there may be prolonged standing so comfortable shoes are a must.

What’s a Woodchuck and what do they really do (it’s not all about chucking wood…)
Welcome to our own Nevada Woodchucks where art in wood comes to life. The non-profit organization is dedicated to teaching safe basic fundamental woodworking skills like carving, lathe work, scroll saw, digital creations (CNC laser and router) and small furniture making through Significant Interest Groups (SIGs). Wooden toys and other artistic wooden items are created. The two main focuses are:
- offering programs and learning opportunities for our community, and
- supporting the community by donating hundreds of these artistically created wooden toys to underprivileged children in Washoe County through local charities during the holidays.
We have been invited to visit their facility, observe how they create, and learn more about their goals. Come join us for an informative and fun tour.

Come join us and learn the ancient art of Meditation. This is a unique meditation class. You will learn how to design your own meditation practice and how to adapt it for the changing needs in your life. We will explore the worlds of mindfulness, breathing, and mind/body connections. Learn how to use meditation for stress management, spirituality, health maintenance, and fun. Most of all it will be an exploration of self.
Plan to attend all four classes, as you will be building upon the skills you learn in each session. The first class is mandatory to continue the series.
ONE-OM-TWO will be on on the schedule for Spring of 2024. OME-OM-ONE is a prerequisite for the advanced class.

Come and join other OLLI members in creating a candle wreath for your holiday celebration! Each participant will be provided with a work mat, a pre-cut circular pattern for the base, pinecones and acorns, plus other natural materials (all provided by the instructor). This workshop is limited to 12 OLLI members.
SUPPLIES PROVIDED: There will be an individual workstation for each participant. All the natural materials and a pre-cut wreath pattern will be provided. The instructor will provide several examples of completed wreaths. Click Here for Pre-registration Instructions.
PARTICIPANTS ARE REQUIRED TO BRING:
- Your own glue gun with 4-6 glue sticks
- Long extension cord (6–10 feet in length)
- Optional: other decorative items, such as ribbon, artificial flowers, etc. to complete the project, if time allows
ASSISTANCE: The instructor(s) will demonstrate various ways in which to adhere pinecones, etc. onto the wreath and will assist participants throughout the workshop.

Public health gerontologists Dr. Peter Reed, Director of the Sanford Center for Aging in the UNR School of Medicine, and Dr. Jennifer Carson, Director of the Dementia Engagement, Education, and Research (DEER) Program in the UNR School of Public Health, will describe their careers focused on supporting the health and well-being of elders across North America. With experiences including aging services, long-term care, dementia care and support, healthcare, non-profits, and academia, Drs. Reed and Carson will highlight the intersection of research, policy, practice, education, and organizational leadership. They will also share their motivations, values, and commitment to community impact.
Refreshments provided by Circle of Life Community Hopsice. Mix and mingle will be from 9:30 am to 10 am.
