Week 1

In this class, students will hone their drawing skills by participating in visual explorations of the animal kingdom. Using photographic references students will create realistic textures and images in ink.

Week 1

Like Matisse and other Fauvists painters, study the power of vivid colors in art. Working in a variety of media to create works that use expressive color to convey emotions, depict light, set a mood, and define character.

Week 1

Sgraffito, Italian for “scratched,” is a decorative process used where design elements are etched into a form. This class will allow students to learn how to construct a ceramic box and decorate it through the art of sgraffito.

Week 1

Students in this foundational class will learn the stepby-step process behind how creative professionals make the cartoons, anime, games, and comics they love! They will Learn about the language of film, how to read scripts, and how to pitch like a pro! Students will create their own storyboard from scratch for their final project.

Week 2

Make a clay portrait of yourself, a character, or animal by learning to construct a hollow form through pinch pots and coil building clay techniques. Apply creativity, talent, and unique ideas for creating your character design.

Week 2

Cartooning, or visual storytelling, is more than just an enjoyable indulgence of the imagination―from editorial illustration, book illustration to comic strips. Instruction will focus on character development, story sequence, and inking and coloring—all aimed towards the refinement of the student’s narratives and ideas.

Week 2

Take inspiration from graphic novels and the world of illustration. Have fun learning how color theory and composition can create powerful illustrations. Students focus on narratives and character design to create illustrations of their own.

Design a cookie jar based on a mythical creature. Discover how basic clay hand building methods and techniques are used to construct fun and useful ceramics.

Week 2

Learn about the relationship between art and design! This focused class about the Elements of Art and Principles of Design allows students to create artworks reflecting a greater understanding of vocabulary correct application of these essential basics.

Week 3

Step into the basics of creating jewelry from colored glass. Master the techniques for glass cutting, shaping, and assembly to produce vibrant wearable stained-glass jewelry. 

Week 3

Fashion one-of-a-kind, handcrafted beads from air-dried clay, paper, and felt to create wearable art and transform pieces into unique wall hangings.

DRAGONS! Learn about the mythology of Dragons and build your own ceramic creature

Week 3

Learn a variety out techniques to create drawing that have a sense of realism while developing your own style. Focus on techniques to support an artful drawing composition and other elements of design.

Week 4

Gain new skills in the clay studio by learning how to use ceramic building tools, underglazes, and enhance your hand-building techniques. Incorporate carving, unusual textures, and colors in your work to create a functional ceramic candle holder.

Week 4

Advance your skills in storytelling through time-sequence and learn lettering and illustration styles. Produce a cartoon using pen and ink that reads like a professional cartoon publication. 

Week 4

Create vibrant spray painted designs on canvases using layering, masking, and resist techniques. Students will use a variety of tools to blend neon colors for glowing effects.

Week 4

Using artist grade pens and Pointillism techniques, students will create a small series of illustrations about a personal or fictional narrative

Week 5

Does your young artist love to draw fantastical worlds from the past and future? This class allows for a deep exploration of drawing characters and fantasy landscapes.

Week 5

Explore monoprinting through different ways of transfering images to create dynamic surface designs.

Week 5

Learn the skills and craftsmanship as you immerse yourself in the luminous world of stained glass. Master the techniques for cutting, shaping, and assembling vibrant glass pieces.

Week 5

Design and create street art inspired nameplates using a cutting edge Glowforge laser cutter. Explore digital stools like Wacom tablets, Adobe illustrator, as well as traditional drawing techniques.

Week 6

Learn techniques in watercolor and the water-based opaque paint, known as gouache. Have fun creating works based on observation of still-life, photographic references, and abstract approaches.

Week 6

Learn the ancient art of Japanese paper marbling, known as Suminagashi, and Japanese bookbinding. Create multiple booklets and leave with a greater appreciation for Japanese art practices.

Week 6

Investigate patterns within the natural world, employing natural patterns as inspiration, through observation you'll explore and craft personal designs that reflect the intricate beauty of the environment 

Week 7

Working as a team is fun and rewarding! This course allows students to create a mini-mural project together. Using various paint and mixed media, young artists will create a vibrant and whimsical scene of fantastical dreamworlds.

Week 7

Unleash your creativity by exploring the ancient art of paper cutting! Dive into history, master foundational techniques, and transform paper into one-of-a-kind designs that showcase your unique style.

Week 7

Bring your wildest hat and helmet ideas to life un this next-level cardboard design class! Using Adobe Illustrator to create custome headwear, then watch your design come to life with a Glowforge laser cutter

Week 7

Immortalize your pets (real and fictional) in this fabric and sewing intensive class. Design a pet portrait and stitch it into a colorful piece of art to enjoy for years to come. Note: Students should bring photos of pet(s) to the first day of class.

Week 7 

Unlock the power of color with acrylic paint! In this course, you will explore mixing, warm vs cool tones, hue, saturation, and more. Get creative and walk away with a stunning painting of your own.

Week 8

Get those red-and-blue glasses out! Learn how to use photo editing software to make 3-D pictures, how to perceive depth, the fundamentals of photography and composition, as well as how to touch up a photo. Join us and unlock a new dimension of photography!

Weeek 8

Learn all about stencils to creare complex artwork full of color and inspiration from contemporary art, street art, and typography! Words and art mix together to encourage a playful and fun approach to art making

Week 8

Build a one-of-a-kind action figure, figurine, doll, or custom creation with movable parts. Students will sculpt armatures, a body, and add hair, clothes, and accessories! Young artists will learn sewing, gluing, and how to create their own moving character.

Week 8

Travel back to the times of the Queztzalcoatl! Each student will create a snake by sewing multiple layers of fabric over a wire form. These toys truly come to life with imagination and inspiration from Aztec and Mayan mythology.
