The Calder Experience: Art Moving Through Space and Time
Sculpture that moves? Impossible. Art stuck to the ground that flies? Unlikely. But American artist Alexander Calder changed all that by challenging the traditional, conventional understanding of what sculpture is - what had been solid and static became kinetic. His innovation revolutionized the trajectory of mid-twentieth century art and its aesthetic still felt today. How did Calder do this – and perhaps more important, why? Come to this in person tour of the current Calder show at Seattle Art Museum and find out!
