Olmsted Tour of Green Lake Park and Boulevard

Come join the Friends of Seattle's Olmsted Parks (FSOP) on a  walk around Green Lake to learn about the Olmsted Brothers' influence on this most popular and historic Seattle park. Green Lake is a geological remnant from the last ice age, named for its late summer algal bloom. Although Green Lake was included in the Olmsted's 1903 Parks Plan, at that time the lake itself was owned by the State of Washington and much of the surrounding land was owned by developers. Between 1907 and 1912, the park and its boulevard were designed by the Olmsted Brothers. Over the next several decades, the park was developed largely according to the Olmsted plan.

Meet at the Green Lake Community Center's north entry. This loop walk is 2.8 miles and will take around 2.5 hours.

Tour leaders are Sue Nicol and Tanya DeMarsh Dodson, FSOP Board Members; and Patricia Killam, FSOP volunteer and founding member of Friends of Seward Park, another Olmsted-designed park.
