Patient Care Technicians/Certified Clinical Medial Assistant (CCMA) are in high demand in the health care field. The demand is expected to increase by 25% by the year 2026.
Patient Care Technicians/CCMA, are vital members of the health care team. They assist doctors, nurses, and other health care professionals in providing direct patient care in a variety of health care settings, such as physician offices, hospitals, and outpatient clinical settings. They will collect patient history, take, and record vital signs, including blood pressure, temperature, weight, and height. They assist with scheduling procedures according to doctor's orders and provide other basic patient care tasks.
Classroom/Laboratory-ten weeks, 60 hours
Clinical Rotation-two weeks, 80 hours
The clinical rotation is a mandatory component of the course and will span two weeks. This rotation will not be scheduled until all requited documentation-including background check, drug screening, and immunizations records-has been submitted by due date, and successful completion of all coursework and laboratory activities.
Upon successful completion of all coursework, laboratory activities and clinical externship requirements, students will sit for the proctored National HealthCareer Association (NHA) certification exam, conducted at Volunteer State Community College.
