Police In-Service

In conjunction with the Division of Workforce Training, theDivision of Public Safety offers specialized Law Enforcement schools each year, serving upper east Tennessee Law Enforcement Agencies. The courses offered are coordinated with the respective agencies in order to fulfill their training needs. Programs offered do receive POST certification. In addition to our catalog listing of programs, we do have the option to provide customization of programs as well as offer them at your location. Many agencies take advantage of this option which reduces overall training expense in terms of man-hours lost, as well as travel and lodging. Part one covers POST rules, the documentation required for compliance with POST rules, and the legal liabilities associated with training. Part two covers Instructor developement, preparation of lession plans, classroom presentations, and the use of Microsoft PowerPoint in the classroom.

This course is designed to develop departmental firearms instructors responsible for departmental training and P.O.S.T. certification procedures. Topics covered will include but not be limited to: the fundamentals of marksmanship, firearms safety, moving and shooting, and care of weapons. Instructor development is a Prerequisite (Specialized Law Enforcement Only. LIMIT:15)

Patrol Rifle Skill Builder

This training will provide officers with the necessary firearms training to instill confidence, proficiency and improve abilities to properly use and safely handle their department issued AR-15 platform patrol rifle. Following this training, officers will be able to:
•   Be able to field strip, clean, inspect and lubricate weapon to ensure proper functioning.
•   Demonstrate proper stance, proper sight alignment, use of cover and concealment, safe movements, weapon discipline and target identification.
•   Be able to recognize malfunctions and properly clear them.
•   Demonstrate ability and proficiency to fire Dept. patrol rifle under physical stress.
•   Demonstrate proper handling techniques and reloading techniques of their dept. patrol rifle.
•   Demonstrate proficiency with their dept. issued patrol rifle
•   Demonstrate proficiency in firing at laterally moving targets.

Rifle Skill Builder Class Materials list:
•Rifle – AR–15 types preferred, but any magazine fed, centerfire rifle will work
•Approximately 500 rounds of rifle ammo
•At least 3 30-round magazines for selected rifle
•A workable, tactical type sling for selected rifle
•Duty Handgun
•Approximately 150 rounds of handgun ammo
•At least 3 handgun magazines
•A duty belt, chest rig or armor carrier with magazine pouches for rifle and holster for handgun
•Cleaning kit for rifle
•1 military type ammo can and small sandbag (for zeroing purposes)

Basic SWAT School is a 5-day course designed for individuals selected, or seeking selection to a tactical or emergency response team. Students will be given a comprehensive overview of tactical operations and deployment condsiderations. The course is designed to give the tactical operator a strong foundation on which to build their tactical expertise. Good fundamental skills and sound tactical habits are stressed in this course.
