Phlebotomy Technician Program  

This 90 hour Phlebotomy Technician Program prepares professionals to collect blood specimens from clients for the purpose of laboratory analysis. Students will become familiar with all aspects related to blood collection and develop comprehensive skills to perform venipunctures completely and safely. Classroom and lab work includes terminology, anatomy and physiology; blood collection procedures; specimen hands-on practice; and training in skills and techniques to perform puncture methods.

Books for this course are included in the course fee and will be handed out on the first night of class.

Registered students will have the option of doing a 40 hour clinical externship. Additional information including a resume, current immunization records, and more will be required from clinical students. A clinical coordinator will reach out directly to students after the start of the class with more information.The cost to coordinate this optional externship is $100.

Note: Students who complete this program will have the opportunity to pursue the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Phlebotomy Technician Exam or National Workforce Career Association (NWCA) Phlebotomy Technician Exam. Exam fee not included in the course fee.

Important Note: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Spring 2021 Phlebotomy course will be conducted in a hybrid format including weekly Zoom lectures and work on an online platform. Students will meet in person on the first night of class as well as 9:00am - 3:00pm on the following Saturdays: March 27, April 10, and April 24

Students will be required to periodically test negative for COVID-19 and provide those results to the WSU Health Services Department in order to attend labs. WSU will have scheduled days for testing on campus, however students can also test at another site to meet this requirement. More detailed information will be provided to registered students.
