This self-paced online course is designed to help teacher candidates and other Massachusetts public school employees prepare for the Writing Subtest of the MTEL Communication & Literacy Exam. The course guides participants through the process of registering for the exam, introduces strategies for answering multiple-choice questions efficiently under time constraints and planning and writing the two essays on the exam, gives students an overview of the grammar and style questions that appear on the exam, and familiarizes test-takers for the kinds of questions they will encounter on the exam. The course consists of four modules, each of which ends with a multiple-choice learning assessment. Each module contains videos created by WSU English professor Wyatt Hermansen, who reviews exam questions and introduces strategies for taking the test.
