This course defines cross connections and describes hydraulic causes of different types of backflow and how cross connections affect public health. It covers the assessment of hazards, types of backflow prevention assemblies, their components and basic characteristics of each. Participants will learn the ten essential elements of a cross connection control program. They will learn how to prioritize inspections, where premises isolation is required and when point-of-use protection is acceptable. The use of corrective and enforcement actions will be presented. Backflow assembly testing, reporting and record keeping will also be discussed.
