Assessing the effectiveness of teaching can be tricky and difficult. In this session, participants will learn about student learning outcomes(SLO), how they function, ways to develop them, and techniques for using them to evaluate the effectiveness of an activity, class, or program. Various definitions of SLOs will be provided, when to use them, how to create them, and how to evaluate their effectiveness. The benefits of using SLOs along with research about their use in higher education settings will be provided. Speakers will explore how to use SLOs from short class-based activities to evaluating the effectiveness of an academic program. Tools of the trade and handouts will be provided.
