CDL Skills Test Preparation - Fallon    NEW!

Before enrolling, we recommend you contact the WNC Continuing Education office at (775) 445-4210 to ensure you fully understand the requirements of the program. Course fees are non-refundable.

By the date your class starts, you must have completed the following required items. Failure to do so will disqualify you from participating in the course and will result in a forfeiture of your class fee.

1. Purchase a 10-year DMV driving record online at www.dmvnv.com (at the left of the page under Driver History Printout, select "10 Years (Insurance/Employment)." You can also go to the DMV to get this record printed for you. The cost to you is $8. If your driving record is not clean, ask the DMV if you will qualify for a CDL license.

2. Study for and pass the DMV CDL Class A Permit test. The CDL handbook is available online at www.dmvnv.com. (Study Sections 5-1 and 6-1 to prepare for the airbrakes and combination vehicles section, and the entire manual for the general knowledge test.) Tests are given Monday through Friday, and the cost s $58.25. If you fail any portion, you have to wait one full day to re-take the test. You get 2 tries, and then you are charged $11 per attempt, per endorsement. You may take the first two exams before you take the General Knowledge Test. Let DMV personnel know if you would like to do this.

3. Complete a DOT physical and drug screen. You may wish to make an appointment with Renown or with Dr. Jon Floto at (775) 423-5878. Your drug screen is only valid up to 30 days before the first day of class. You will need to provide your exam results to the DMV when taking your permit test.

Before class starts, you will need to provide the following items to WNC:

-DMV CDL Class A Permit

-DMV 10-year driving history-printout

-DOT physical and drug screen results

This class is designed to prepare students to pass the CDL Skills test. The Skills test is comprised of vehicle inspection, basic vehicle control and on-road test. The class will be 85% hands-on instruction and 15% classroom instruction. The classroom portion will focus on the concepts of the skills test including basic control and backing the truck/trailer. The classroom portion will also focus on the concepts of double clutch shifting. The hands-on portion will focus on operating the truck/trailer in a controlled environment and under close supervision of the instructor(s). The hands-on portion will also include intensive training in backing the truck/trailer in a controlled backing concourse. The students will be tested on their knowledge via written test review, online test review and skills test (driving and backing) evaluations by the instructor(s).
