Translating Ancient Hebrew Text

You don't have to speak fluent Hebrew to translate Biblical or other ancient texts. What you need is a basic set of grammar rules plus access to dictionaries and conjugation tables. In this class, you will learn how to read the Aleph-Bet, how Hebrew words are constructed, and how to use freely available websites to help you translate Hebrew texts word by word. Each class will cover one area of Hebrew syntax and then use that to build a translation of the first chapter of the book of Esther. You'll learn the difference between "inside" and "outside" translation, and by the end of the term, you will have your own personal translation of the text.
