Fall is a busier time in the garden than one might expect – it's the best time for many productive activities that help keep gardens beautiful and easy to maintain in the next year. The cool weather and the still-warm soil make Fall the perfect time to plant, and in some cases, it’s also the best time for pruning. Fall is also a great time to mulch in preparation for spring. In this class, we’ll go through each of these activities step-by-step – demonstrating how each process not just makes your garden easier to care for, but helps it thrive.

The latter half of the class will be held outdoors in a nearby garden and will involve walking on unpaved terrain. Sturdy, closed-toe shoes, clothing appropriate for the weather, and water are recommended.

Students will carpool to a secondary location. All students must sign a field trip liability waiver before the start of class in order to attend. You will be asked to sign the form during the registration process.

Come explore the fruits and roots of fall through four unique lenses! Each week, we will examine 2-3 amazing plants through the perspectives of a botanist, a gardener, an herbalist, and a chef. Together, we'll learn how to identify each plant, how to grow them successfully in gardens of any size, and how to explore their culinary and medicinal properties. We will grow our knowledge not just through lectures, fun stories, and tips for integrating them into daily life - we'll also get to touch, smell, and even taste each ingredient. Unique recipes will also be provided so that students can deepen their personal connection to the material at home.
