Yavapai County’s Verde Valley has hundreds of prehistoric village sites, ancestral to both the Hopi of northeastern Arizona and the O’odham peoples of southern Arizona. We’ll visit a number of these sites, including Tuzigoot, Montezuma Castle and Montezuma Well (where we’ll enjoy lunch under lush Cottonwood and Sycamore trees) as we learn of the prehistory of these ancestral residents of the valley and the story of why they left this seemingly beautiful environment. We’ll also visit the Verde Valley Archaeology Center in Camp Verde. Up to a mile or so of walking on mainly paved trails.
