ART: Pit-Fired Ceramics   NEW!

Whether you are a beginner, or an accomplished ceramicist, you are invited to join this 'alternative firing' course to explore the remarkable forms and colors achieved through organically-simple pit firing. Participants will spend the first 3 sessions at the Yavapai College - Verde Valley Campus ceramics lab, first learning about pit-fire parameters; creating a hand-built, white clay form; then prepping and bisque firing.

The final 2 sessions will be held at the instructor's studio, providing hands-on experience in the pit-firing technique, using wood shavings, pine needles, sawdust and even cow manure. Color is enhanced by the addition of substances such as copper carbonate, salt, dried coffee grounds, and tea leaves. As the finished pieces are cleaned and prepared for protective finish, participants will share the vision and inspiration behind their work. The artist's studio sessions are weather dependent. In the event of inclement weather, accommodating dates may be rescheduled.

25# clay and other supplies are included in the tuition fee. Additional clay may be available for purchase. Instructor: Luna Patterson
