Communication is the cornerstone of human interaction - the bridge that connects us to our decisions, emotions, and ideas. Utilizing facial expressions, gestures, and tone of voice to understand others meets basic requirements; however, recognizing/developing brain-based techniques/neurological processes enhances our ability to connect to others in a genuine, effective way. Although approximately 70% of communication occurs to make decisions, the other 30% has nuances that can be learned: practicing active listening, strengthening your emotional quotient, and encouraging shared ideas and teamwork. If work productivity and personal relationships are crucial to you, this course will contribute to your skill set.

Put down your phones! Give social media a break and rediscover the importance of connecting with others face to face. In a recent Gallup poll, half of all people spend about four hours each day on social media, affecting sleep, attention, work performance, physical fitness, and contributing to social isolation. In this course students will have opportunities to be seen and heard, accepted and accepting of others. Activities and exploration of how our senses are a part of communication will create practice for people to communicate and connect with themselves to enhance their relationships with their families, communities, and world.
