Good advertising doesn’t happen by accident. It is a combination of the right words and the right images, neither of which by themselves has the impact of the two together. This course is designed to get you to think about how to create messages that cut through the clutter of today’s crowded media markets. Working with a partner, each week you will solve a communication problem by creating a print ad, TV spot, or other advertising message, which will then be discussed in class the following week. This class is a prerequisite for Introduction to Copywriting.
At the conclusion of the course, you will have a portfolio of creative concepts strong enough to be used in job interviews or to help inform and guide the marketing decisions of your organization. This course is designed to change the way you think about advertising and marketing, to help you avoid the obvious solutions, and to teach you how to defeat the expectations of your target audience so your message sticks.
