This course is designed for Heritage speaker of Spanish and other students from a Spanish-speaking background. Main goals of this class are developing basic skills in reading and writing in Spanish, basic grammar structures, conversation on familiar topics, vocabulary and developing a greater familiarity with U.S. Hispanic culture. This course is conducted entirely in Spanish

This course is designed to promote effective and advanced reading, writing and oral communication. Vocabulary in context, grammar, and cultural units will be covered. Upon completion of this course, students will be able to comment on what is necessary, possible, probable, and improbable. Students will be able to express expectations & hopes, describe emotions, opinions, wishes, doubt, uncertainty and conjecture, (subjunctive). Students will also hypothesize a situation that is not part of the speaker’s present reality (conditional) and use the past perfect to refer to a past event, give formal orders, ask people to do something (formal commands), use possessive pronouns, and finally students will learn how to express unexpected occurrences or accidental events. The course also includes activities such as: reading comprehension, listening comprehension, writing and speaking.

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to convey likes and dislikes, narrate an action in progress (present progressive), describe plans and conveying what will happen in the future (Ir + a + infinitive), express opinions by talking about what they want or what they prefer (stem changing verbs), point out demonstrative adjectives, discuss to whom or for whom an action takes place, and to avoid repetition in speaking and writing (OD and ID pronouns), talk about events in the past (Preterite), talk about knowing people or knowing how to do things (Saber & Conocer), and talk about daily routines (reflexive verbs).
