You are a new mom, you made it, congratulations! Now you have a beautiful baby and you need to recover from the stress caused by the pregnancy and delivery. It doesn’t matter if you are at your first experience or at your sixth one. Postpartum time is not easy to handle. New moms go through a period of hardship dealing with physical pain, tears, fatigue, mood change, discouragement and anxiety. As soon as you feel ready, take a break, for some time to relax and nourish your spirit by taking this course. Here you will learn several tips on how to get through the first three months after delivery which are the hardest. You will also learn relaxing breathing exercises to reduce the anxiety, gentle yoga exercises, meditation and self-care in general.

Together, we will explore several possibilities where you could meet new people and a potential future soulmate. This course is for students who know some English and who have completed an introductory English course. In each class, you will work on grammar and vocabulary, writing, conversational skills, and reading and comprehension. We will review the use of the present tense to talk and write about our habits and daily routines, and we will work on prepositions of place (at, in, on), determiners (this, that, these), simple past tense (I ran), the verb to be, and present continuous. The required textbook: Side by Side 2 Book and Workbook, Third Edition, is available at the Brookline Booksmith or online.  

Pour ceux qui parlent déjà français et qui veulent maintenir ou améliorer leur niveau de langue. Nous travaillerons dans des séances de conversation sur des sujets divers afin d'enrichir votre vocabulaire et de développer votre sens de l'expression idiomatique français. En plus de la production orale, objectif essentiel du cours, nous reverrons des points de grammaire, lirons des extraits de textes francophones, écouterons de la musique et regarderons des documents audiovisuels. Pas de cours la semaine du 7 février, 2025.

This course is taught in a spiral rather than a straight line. Instead of learning rules in a linear way with a textbook, we focus on becoming confident speakers through the combination of orally applied grammar. We will study authentic situations and circle key structures of French for proficiency. For students who have completed French V or its equivalent, and have some mastery of the three main verb groups, and être, avoir, aller, faire, and savoir, and the passé composé, imparfait, and future tenses. We will consolidate those in practical, fun speaking-intensive exercises while also familiarizing yourself more with other key structures of the language the subjonctif, les pronoms relatifs, and elusive connecting words like en and y. A particular emphasis will be placed on learning what is necessary to travel to a French-speaking country. Course materials will be made available online for students and by students to either access electronically and/or print.

This course is for high intermediate and advanced students who want to improve their speaking and listening skills. We will focus on conversational English and highlight idioms and expressions used in everyday settings.
Cross-cultural situations will be discussed. Additional classroom topics will vary according to our students’ interests. With enhanced English skills, you can be more comfortable in both business and social settings and of course, enjoy more of what Boston has to offer.
