A Phlebotomist collects blood specimens. In this class, students will become familiar with all aspects related to blood collection and will develop comprehensive skills necessary to perform venipunctures completely and safely. Classroom training includes terminology, anatomy and physiology; blood collection procedures; specimen hands-on practice; and clinical training in skills and techniques to perform puncture methods. In addition to 80+ classroom hours, the program includes 120 hours of on-site clinicals. Must have a GED or equivalent and pass a TB, drug and background screen. Upon successful completion, students will be eligible to take the American Society of Clinical Pathologist National Phlebotomy Certification Exam (ASCP). Classes meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays evenings plus two Saturday classes that will be scheduled during your class time. Clinicals are held at various sites between 8:00 to 5:00 p.m.
