Commercial Drivers License-Borger

Frank Phillips College offers the training required by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) to become licensed to operate a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV).

As required by law and regulation, trainees complete a class which teaches the theory part of CMV operation which familiarizes the trainee with a variety of topics pertaining to the safe operation of a CMV. This portion of the training is completed online at your own pace. Knowledge of each section is tested by quizzes which must be passed at 80% or better.

Hands-on training is provided by qualified instructors to assist the trainee in learning how to properly complete a pre-trip inspection, perform the required vehicle backing skills and on-the-road driving. Students are allowed to be scheduled for testing when both they and the instructor believe they are prepared to pass the exams.

FPC employs several CDL examiners who conduct the required testing on behalf of DPS. These tests are scheduled at our Perryton or Dalhart campuses and will be conducted in the same vehicle the trainee has trained in. Upon successful completion you will be provided paperwork to take to DPS who will then issue your new CDL.

The cost of the program is $3,700.00 and includes the online coursework, the hands-on instruction and the initial test. Up to forty hours of driving time (skills and driving) is included in the cost. Additional attempts to pass the test and/or hours beyond 40 are available at additional cost.

Most students complete the course in 5 weeks or less. The hands-on portion is scheduled at the convenience of both the instructor and the student, allowing a student who works during the day to have the opportunity to earn their CDL in the evening. Students meet with an instructor once a week to discuss the online theory learning component.
