Suppressed Literatures
(Tuesdays, 2:30pm-4:30pm ET)
NEW!
In studying world literature we are always served only what power and authorities of certain eras and places have sanctioned and accepted. But what about literature that has been suppressed and forbidden to read and communicate about? This course is a survey of some world literature, past and present, that was suppressed for ideological reasons and for nonconformity with the mainstream power and traditional ideals. Suppressed literature might not conform with patriarchal centralist values and be written, for example, by women, atheists or by persons of non-heterosexual orientation, or by non-Western European writers. Class size limit: 15.
