Beethoven String Quartets
(3-Week Class 10/8, 10/15, 10/22) (Thursdays, 11:00am-1:00pm ET)
NEW!
Beethoven was one of the most innovative and influential composers of all time. This course surveys his 16 string quartets, widely considered to be the cornerstone of the quartet repertoire. Spanning from 1801 until his death in 1827, the quartets define the three periods of Beethoven’s creative output, from his classical beginnings to his powerful and monumental late quartets. Topics include a general outline of Beethoven’s life and works, how the quartets fit into his output, and a study of his compositional techniques and how they evolved across his works. Class size limit: 150.
