Underwater Archaeology (Mondays, 11:00am-1:00pm)    NEW!

This course will explore how archaeological work in the water has expanded our understanding of a variety of historical cultural events. We will discuss the methods and challenges encountered on underwater field projects, including remote sensing technology, underwater excavation methods and conservation of materials. Topical highlights will include underwater sites and discoveries in Florida and the Southeast that have changed our understanding of human settlement and exploration of the region. We will conclude with a review of Florida’s role in protecting underwater heritage sites and ways in which you can visit and protect underwater archaeology sites. Class size limit: 30.
