French For Travel (Thursdays, 1:30pm-3:30pm)

This course will teach you all of the basic cultural and communicative skills needed to navigate travel for a short or extended period in the French-speaking world. The class will include cultural norms alongside common expressions needed to book airplane or train tickets, hotels, rental cars, Airbnbs, and to order food, respond to invitations, travel on mere centimes or in greater luxury, and read a Michelin guide. The instructor will teach safety and spontaneity and grace-in-travel, and show students how to order food from a French prix-fixe menu. Video, film and travel narrative will enhance students’ cultural learning experience. Ideal for travelers or those expecting to spend months or a year abroad. Class size limit: 30.
