The Apalachicola river and bay system is one of the more ecologically diverse and significant natural areas in the southeastern United States. It has for centuries served as the central economic pillar of Franklin County, Florida. It is now a system imperiled. Florida State University is dedicated to reversing this trend through the Apalachicola Bay System Initiative (ABSI). Funded in part by the Triumph Gulf Coast Inc., ABSI seeks insight into the extent of deterioration of the bay ecosystem, particularly the oyster reefs and the causes of their decline. Come learn about all about the research plan at the FSU Coastal and Marine Lab and meet some of your watery neighbors! The course format includes lecture, lab and field experience.
Class size limit: 20. REQUIREMENT: Participants must be able to go in the field (walk on unstable surfaces such as wet sand) and potentially on a pontoon boat.
