This is an independent study, self-paced course.
The Accreditation Commission for Traffic Accident Reconstruction examination provides accreditation for the experienced traffic accident reconstructionist. Presented entirely online, this comprehensive course will assist you in preparing to take the ACTAR accreditation exam. It is suited for both crash reconstructionists and engineers. The course is divided into two parts – the theory portion and practical portion.
During the theory portion, you will watch a video lecture of each topic listed below and then take a quiz to check your understanding of the material. After all subject quizzes have been successfully completed, you will take a practice exam that is similar to the actual ACTAR theory exam.

The second portion of the course will focus on the practical part of the ACTAR exam (the reconstruction).
You will view a video that covers the following topics:
- Materials to bring to the second part of the exam
- Calculating the center-of-mass of a vehicle
- Drawing scale vehicles
- Measuring departure angles
- Measuring approach angles
- Measuring departure distance
- Properly reporting PDOF
After watching the video, you will be given two different crashes to reconstruct. The instructor will grade your work and then contact you to go over any weak areas.

Online environment: This is an independent study, self-paced course. Although there are no specific times that you must be online, you will be required to complete assignments by the deadlines posted within the course. You should plan to dedicate approximately 40 hours to the course activities. You must be committed to the course and invest the time necessary for successful completion.
Instructors are available to answer your questions during each module via the help forum. The course must be completed within 30 days upon registration. Once the 30-day period has ended, you may no longer have access.
Computer requirements: You will complete the course entirely online. A dependable broadband internet connection with a Windows or Mac computer and Adobe Acrobat Reader (free download) are required. Some assignments will require you to upload a PDF, JPG, or scanned image of a diagram in order to complete a project.
