Bosch© CDR Technician for the Insurance Industry (Online)

Online independent study course conducted over two consecutive weeks.

Presented entirely online, this self-paced course is intended to educate and inform students on how to use the Bosch© Crash Data Retrieval (CDR) Tool to collect speed and/or crash severity data prior to and during a collision from a variety of modern vehicles.

The Insurance Industry CDR Tool Technician is a 24-hour course that will provide the student with knowledge about all the capabilities of the CDR tool, even though the technician will not utilize all the available capabilities. Many agencies in Law Enforcement and private industry have many technicians that can read EDR data from the Download Connector (DLC) and just a few that can read EDR data Direct to Module (DTM). This course will teach students to become a DLC technician. It is important for you to know that EDR data may be recoverable if it is not available at the DLC technician skill level and for the student to seek the help of a DTM technician. The materials presented in this course will provide students with the full capabilities of the Bosch CDR Tool and allow them to be the best possible DLC technician.

We will begin with a relevant history of Event Data Recorders (EDRs) and the Bosch© CDR Tool. We will discuss the common terms used in association with EDR technology, and you will learn how to load and activate the Bosch© CDR Tool software on your computer.

We present you with the proper techniques to use when collecting EDR data. You’ll learn how to troubleshoot data collection issues, how to prevent the corrupting or spoiling of data extraction and the legal issues you need to consider. In addition, we’ll teach you how to use the Bosch© CDR Tool Help File as a current and future resource.

Topics Include

  • Understand the relevant History of Event Data Recorders (EDR) and the Bosch© CDR Tool
  • Learn common “Terms of Art” for EDR technology
  • Load and activate the Bosch© CDR Tool software
  • Use of the Bosch© CDR Tool Help File as a current and future resource
  • Collect EDR data using the Bosch© CDR Tool
  • Troubleshoot data collection issues
  • Prevent spoliation of EDR data
  • Legal considerations

To successfully complete the CDR Technician for Insurance Industry, students will need access to a CDR hardware kit (Not Included). Insurance industry technician students will collect data from the Download Connector (DLC) and submit it for grading. The successful technician should be able to collect data from most vehicles, unless damage requires the services of a FULL CDR Technician, by using the Bosch© CDR tool.

Prior to the start of the course, you must have in your possession:

  • Bosch© CDR Software* and Activation Certificate (Not Included)
  • Bosch© CDR hardware* kit
  • 12-volt automotive battery jump-pack with cigarette lighter plug

* IPTM recommends using the latest software to learn the full functionality of the current Bosch software.
