June is the Ode’imini-giizis, the Heartberry or Strawberry Moon, marking the peak of the wild strawberry harvest season. The Ode’imini-giizis is also a time of gratitude, renewal and gathering for the Anishinaabe. This is a perfect time to mark the occasion by learning to make traditionally beaded strawberry earrings. In this one day class, students will learn about Anishinaabe beadwork, the importance of strawberries in Anishinaabe florals and culture, and how to bead strawberry earrings using a single needle appliqué technique. Students will leave the course with a better understanding of North Shore Anishinaabe crafting and enjoy wearing their new favorite pair of handmade beaded strawberry earrings.
