When folks of all ages see a juggle braiding set for the first time, they immediately ask two questions: first, what IS that? And second, can I try? Juggle braiding, or the ropemaking sensation sweeping the nation, is also known as whipcord braiding, interlocking, slyngyng, or spoon tossing. It’s fun, it’s easy to learn, and it’s addictive in a very analog sense. This method has been used for thousands of years to create durable, colorful braided ropes that can be used for a surprising number of functional and decorative purposes, from jump ropes to shoelaces. In this course, students will carve, paint, and learn to use a juggle braiding set of their own, which is sure to become a favorite object wherever it hangs. While this course might offer a first exposure to juggle braiding, the materials and techniques are relatively simple and easy to obtain, so students may quickly become evangelists for this fun and purposeful activity.
