A drum carder is a prized fiber tool that can often feel inaccessible because of the cost. Join us in the woodshop and learn to make your own drum carder! Learn to safely use planers, table saws, band saws, routers, etc. from a woman skilled in their use. Learn to assemble the parts you create into a tool highly sought-after by fiber folk for spinning from a gadget-guy that spins. You will leave not only with your own manual powered drum carder in hand, but the skills and confidence to safely pursue the wonderful world of woodworking! As a bonus, information will be provided on how you can subsequently convert your prized possession into a powered machine. Total beginners in both (or either) fiber preparation or woodworking are welcome. Those with experience in either (or both) are also welcome.
Students ages 18+ may register for this course independently. Youth ages 14-17 are welcome to register with an adult. Adult/child pairs will complete 1 project and pay 1 materials fee. A 25% tuition discount applies to the youth registrant when registering with a full-paying adult; call to register.
