Learn how to make a traditional dough bowl using the axe and adze. In this three day course you will work a log down to a bowl with simple tools. We will cover axe ergonomics, design and layout, and finishing techniques with gouges, block planes, and draw knives. Every student will make 1 dough bowl and we will discuss how to finish your bowl at home (after the wood dries out) by adding color with milk paint or using food safe oils. This course is designed to get you confident with the axe and carving larger vessels by hand.
Required Tools
Students should bring carving gloves, pencil, eye protection if they want a personal pair. Recommended Ansell nitrile grip cut proof gloves available on grainger.
