Braided-In Rug

Nothing says “country” more than a braided rug.  Making a braided rug that requires no sewing once the braiding is done makes this technique even more attractive.  It is also a great way to recycle, reuse and repurpose old T-shirts, sheets, or other linens, cloth or clothing which are no longer being used.  In this class, students will learn how to get started and practice making a few rows of braids in their rug. No need to precut fabric strips. This will be done in class.  Students will finish their rug outside of class time.

Required Tools

  • Fabric such as T-shirts, cotton or poly/cotton blend bed sheets or fabric and scissors for cutting fabric strips. It is best to use all T-shirt cloth, or all cotton or poly/cotton cloth - not some of each - in your rug.  It takes approximately 3-4 lbs. of fabric to make a 2’x3’ rug.

Optional Tools

  • Note taking materials and any other tools you feel may be useful
