Dovetail joinery is one of the oldest forms of joinery that exists in woodworking. In this class we will learn how to make dovetails, and students who wish can build a beautiful lidded dovetail box. A box could be perfect for storing smaller hand tools, chisels, or as a jewelry box for a loved one. Students will make every component from scratch. Experience all stages of the process from learning to read wood, picking the lumber best suited for your project, creatng a parts needed list, preparing the wood, and learning correct sanding techniques and foolproof tips for applying a perfect finish. Expect to hand cut dovetails, draw scribe lines for thickness planing, and learn how to sharpen chisels and hand planes. This class is designed to give you a good start in woodworking without having to invest in expensive tools or a large work space in order to create amazing results. All levels welcome. A materials fee of $30-$90 will be payable during class, depending on project choices.
