Rosemaling Plants from the Boreal Forest

In this class students will work in oil paint to create gorgeous leaves and flowers from the boreal ecosystem using the techniques of rosemaling. We are fortunate at the North House campus to share a very similar boreal forest with Scandinavia and the homeland of rosemaling in Norway. During class we will talk about some historical aspects of rosemaling while creating modern forms using traditional brushstrokes. These boreal plant designs reminiscent of botanical illustration will be painted on heavy paper, perfect for framing. If students prefer to bring an unfinished wood piece to paint on, they are welcome. Students signing up for this class should have a solid foundation in rosemaling. Materials: $10 paid at registration covers the patterns for class, and an additional fee of up to $30 can be paid in class depending on materials needed. If a student needs all materials supplied, the total including patterns comes to $40.
